Kathryn: Women do not have to sacrifice careers or studies in other
fields in order to become pilots.  I am getting a master’s degree in an
area unrelated to aviation, speech-language pathology, while working
on my private pilot’s license.  My experience shows that a girl doesn’t
have to drop everything and give up other interests to fly.
Kate: I seek opportunities to be involved within the aviation
community and to entice others to follow their dreams. One of my
goals and dreams is to find a way to give back to the aviation
community. I'd like to become a mentor to others, as my mentor is
with me, and provide future student pilots with the ability to learn to
pursue their dreams in aviation with a patient, thorough, and
Laura: Ever since I was a little girl I have been fascinated by aviation. My
dream is to become a Blue Angle of the US Navy. I want to inspire girls,
just like me to pursue their dreams and reach for the stars. I want to take
girls out of abuse and drug environments and change the paths they go
down. I want to be able change peoples lives, the way one of my first
flights did me
.
Constance: I want to inspire others like that. I want to fly around in
my WASP reenacting uniform and teach young ladies the life lessons
I've learned from the pilots that came before me - because flying is
truly a lifestyle that brings out the best qualities in a pilot, not just a
hobby taken in some idle fashion.
Jacky: I am now faced with another obstacle…finances!  Just when I
completed everything I needed to test out with the FAA to receive my
Private Pilot’s License, I ran out of money in my account…talk about
timing!  When I heard about your program, I thought what an honor it
would be to help encourage, inspire and act as a positive role model to
future female pilots.  Thank you for your time and consideration.
Tanya: I would love to fly for a living but I also want to give back and
pay it forward as they say. My goal is to fly lifeline because I want to
save lives and let people know that there are good people out there
that are willing to help, not because it’s their job, but because they
are risking a part of themselves to help others.
Claudia: I think this is and always will be my biggest gift to others:
nuts-and-bolts, how-do-I-make-this-happen, okay-let's-do-this! kind.
I am an adventurer.  My spirit is catching.
Hannah: This is why I continue to strive and achieve my dreams and
goals.  I do it for not only myself, but for the other young women in
the world who have the same aspirations.  I do it for little girls like my
sisters who will have the promise of a better future in aviation, when
hopefully the uncommon existence of women pilots will become an
accepted notion of society.
Caitlyn: Aviation may be a field dominated by men today, but women
will unquestionably capture it tomorrow. We can be just as proficient
at flying, if not more so, as men.  All we ladies need is a friendly push
in the right direction and a little encouragement to break those molds.
Sara: I will make the best of effort to give back, inspire and motivate
girls in Aviation as this website has done for me. I am brave, I am
courageous, I stand up for what I believe in and those are the values I
will take with me where ever I go and I hope I can leave a glitter trail
behind for girls that have dreams to fly big planes one day!
Jessica: I wish that I had been approached by a strong, influential
ago. I would probably already be a licensed pilot. I want to be that
strong influential woman who can show girls that flying is not just for
men and squash that stereotype.
Leandra: I am extremely excited about finding Girls with Wings.  It is
a great feeling to know I am not the only girl out there that wants to
fly and is trying to make her dreams come true.  It is wonderful to
know there are groups and organizations that want to help girls fly.  I
am very thankful, and want to thank you for providing this remarkable
opportunity.
Amanda: I know that this spring when my niece is born, I am going to
make sure that girl grows up knowing what it feels like to be up there,
I want to be the one to show her that world.  I believe that the
experience of flight has the power to lift young girls above the false
impressions that their options and selves are limited.
Alison: Just by the act of following my dreams and making them a
reality will surely be an inspiration to a little girl somewhere and by
becoming a life-flight pilot I will be a hero to someone every day.
simply aspire to be something better. I want to be a hero.
Lisa: It struck me how there are so few women involved in the
aviation field and especially in military aviation. I want to help change
this. I hope to “give wings” to future generations of females and my
dream is to one day have a girl tell me that I was the reason that she
wanted to leave her heart up on the clouds.
though I have struggled, I made my way through.  I believe a good
role model in the aeronautics field is someone who is passionate
about aeronautics, has good morals and understands the value of
money.
Tiffany: As for my strengths, I have been told that I am tenacious when it
comes to getting things done. I like to see things to completion and really
enjoy making something on a plane that doesn’t function properly, work
again. I have also been described as self-motivated; I like things to get
done. Put simply, things don’t get done unless you do it, so I do it.
Mollybeth: I knew this would be my chance to do something exciting.
I’ve learned that preparing for an opportunity in life is an essential
part of getting what you want. I am prepared for the hard work
ahead of me. This experience will be quite long considering my age,
but if that’s what it takes to make my dreams come true, I’m ready.
Sarah: This is one of my attempts of completing my dream. Whatever the
outcome may be to this application, I know for a fact that I will fly planes and I
will be great at what I do. I have the goal set for myself and nothing will stop
me from reaching it as I so have learned from your wonderful website. I hope
to hear from the Girls with Wings in the future! Thank you for the opportunity.
Amara: My grandmother and aunt both were going for their private pilot
license but never exceeded. I was always raised that I can do anything I
want to do as long as I put my mind to it and work hard. Another thing is
by people saying that girls aren’t as good as boys I wanted to prove them
wrong and show them a girls are just as good as boys.
Angela: The heavens beg the soul to look upward. Calling out. Enticing
one to take flight and explore the majestic sky. There is an extraordinary
enchantment about flying that one cannot ignore. Those caught in this
whirlwind of beauty and wonder either live in constant curiosity or become
driven by their own interest to discover the heavenly mysteries. My desire
to fly burns within me as in thousands of other young girls.
Natalie: My individual effort in flying a plane has taught me how
something small, as this organization initially was, can grow into
something bigger and better - big enough to have an impact on girls'
lives and dreams. As the time nears to reward this scholarship, I ask
you to consider the desire I have to advance young women in flight.
Ari: I find it sad that less than 3% of the adult American population
are pilots. One of my other future goals as a CFI is get more people
flying and to help banish the prevalent myth that “flying is too
dangerous for most people.” I’d especially focus my efforts on inner-
city children who have not had the opportunity to fly and on young
women like me who have been initially turned away from aviation.
Rebecca: The devotion towards my dreams to be an astronaut one
day will not end until I am amongst the stars and until I can see the
same happiness in women allover the world who like me, wish to fly.
Kam: Since starting my training, I have already flown several girls
from my daughter’s kindergarten class as passengers. It is an honor
to show the girls a female role-model in aviation and that learning
daughters is a constant reminder for me to lead by example and truly
become a person of strength.
Audrey: Aviation is a thrilling occupation and a wonderful hobby for
both men and women. So why do women usually ignore the possibility
of becoming a pilot? This is disappointing, especially when often times
they make the best pilots due to their alertness and sensitivity to
details. No good excuse can be given for the lack of female pilots,
except that women are seldom encouraged to pursue an interest in
aviation.
Meghan: I would like to have the opportunity have the girls with
wings flight training scholarship because I would like to succeed and
become a girl pilot. I can also work really hard and not complain how
hard it is. I would like this scholarship but I could promise that I can
really succeed about being a pilot.
Mandy: One of the strongest motivations for getting my pilot’s license
Mandy: One of the strongest motivations for getting my pilot’s license
is to share aviation with young people, especially girls. Women have
made instill in our young women that they must stand strong in the
face of great strides for equality in our world, but there is still a need
to instill prejudice and inequality and never back down. Women need
women. United we are a force to be reckoned with.
Alzira: In a male dominant profession, we, Girls with Wings, must stick
together during the battle of discrimination and discouragement.
Sadly, we will experience this through our entire careers however; it’s
all worth it when we finally get our wings, the wings that will take us
on many journeys and adventures throughout our entire lives, the
wings that will lift us when we are down and ultimately the wings that
will give us freedom.
Piper: I think it is wonderful that the Girls with Wings website offers a support system
like had my mom had the encouragement that this website offers then she would have
pursued her dream of flying.  I hope that GWW will continue to grow and touch more
young women’s hearts.
Lauren: My future plans, are to go to U of I and be involved in the ROTC program and
then go into the Air Force. So I hope that one day I will become a pilot. I can hardly
wait to finish our Pietenpol and fly it in the sky with an open cockpit and the wind in my
hair! This scholarship would really be helpful for my dream of becoming a pilot.
Rachel: I know that I am a good role model for women because above and
beyond everything I’ve learned to never give up on your dreams. I know
what it’s like to start at the bottom and have to work your way back up. I
know what it’s like to struggle and how much work it can take to get
where you want to be. I know that every time I overcome an obstacle in
my life I become a better role model for those around me.
how to fly for fun!  My name is Elizabeth Worthey and I am seventeen
years old. I could be a good role model for because I can motivate people
and I am relatable to young girls and can speak to them about my passion.
Kate: I share my goal of flying whenever possible and encourage
others to find something worthwhile to work towards.  I especially
encourage those girls I meet who are interested in becoming pilots.  I
forward to encouraging others through the Girls with Wings website.
Amanda:  I am a natural leader and take the initiative in a lot of
circumstances, and step up when there is a need. I am a prayer help
guide girls, and would love the opportunity to lead and organize
events for girls who share my passion.
to achieve this goal while inspiring women across the state to follow
their dreams. Whether by occupation or for recreation, flying opens up
a whole new world of opportunity and what better way to explore and
to serve the Last Frontier than by plane.
Lindsay: I can admit that I am proud of myself.  I have stuck with this
and have been enjoying it thoroughly.  I would not trade my flying
experiences for the world.  I have loved other things in my life but
nothing as much as flying.  I think I was born to fly.  Flying seems so
natural to me, me that’s why I think I was born with invisible wings.
Kelli: My mother says "life is a tapestry and the more varied the colors
of the threads, the more beautiful the final picture".  I hope to always
use what I know and what I have achieved or will achieve, to bless the
lives of anyone who needs it.  Any girl who wants to feel the "wind
beneath her wings" will have my support.
Deborah: In God's infinite wisdom he has used those 19 years of
trials to hone my skills and character. If I had been allowed to get my
dream right away, natural pilot arrogance would have disqualified me
from my hearts true desire, helping others. It is no longer my selfish
dream because I'm so awesome. It is finally about others.
Jasmine: I refuse to let anyone tell me I cannot do something because in the end I
high. Perhaps someone deserves this scholarship more than I, but I know for a fact I
high. Perhaps someone deserves this scholarship more than I, but I know for a fact I
would be honored if I got it. This would be an opportunity of a lifetime!
