Pilot and Owner of Helicopter Company

Hi girls!! My name is Adelynn Chapman and my husband, Keith, and I live in
Middle Tennessee, specifically, Williamson County. We have two dogs
[Labradors]: Bailey and Cocoa. Keith and I both love aviation and that is
how we met. I am a Fixed-Wing pilot and working on my Helicopter rating.
Keith is a Captain for Southwest Airlines and has been with them for 24
years; Keith also flies helicopters, and basically everything else for that
matter!!  Together, we own a helicopter company, Helistar Aviation, in
Nashville. We are based out of John C. Tune Airport. We started this
company together about 3 years ago and absolutely love it.

While growing up, my parents were generous to allow my siblings and I to
fly with them on different small aircraft when we would go out of town. I
remember always sitting up front with our pilot and helping him work the
radios. I was in Heaven!! I can recall the excitement of being on airport
grounds and driving out onto the ramp, an excitement that I still get today,
on a daily basis. My younger brother, Christopher, 22 years old, is a pilot
and we went through the process of earning our Certificates together about
6 years ago. My parents were always very supportive of us and still are to
this day. I had wonderful flight instructors along the way and my husband is
my number one biggest fan and confidence booster!! For that, I am so very
grateful.

Even though I loved aviation at an early age, I truly decided to dream about
becoming a pilot while in high school at St. Cecilia Academy in Nashville, TN
and began taking a few lessons. I went on to attend O'More College of
Design where I graduated with a degree in Fashion Design and
Merchandising. In college, I returned to taking flight lessons at John C. Tune
Airport. I earned my Single Engine Private Pilots Certificate in the spring of
2008, and I am currently wrapping up my Instrument rating. I earned my
Seaplane rating in March 2009, after attending Jack Browns Sea Plane Base
with Keith.  I am currently working on my helicopter ratings as well.
Becoming a pilot takes much hard work, time and dedication; however, it is
a joy that is unlike any other. It is one of the most rewarding experiences.

When I began my lessons at John C. Tune Airport, I was renting a Cessna
172 with a G1000, glass cockpit. I also have done aerobatics and spin
training with my best friend, Catherine Cavagnaro in her Cessna 150
Aerobat. My family owns a Cirrus SR22 G3 which we fly mostly. Then Keith
and I own a Robinson R-22 and a Robinson R-44. We manage and operate
another Robinson R-22, a Bell Jet Ranger and a Bell Long Ranger.

While Helistar Aviation is my career, flying is more importantly my favorite
hobby! At Helistar, we specialize in flight training, charters, aerial
photography, operating for news stations, rides, tours and much, much
more! I love both Fixed Wing and Helicopters!!

I also run my own construction companies, Arlyn Homes and AMF
Construction, in which I started in 2004. As a third generation builder, I
specialize in residential homes and small commercial. I obtained my real
estate license as well, and have been with Battle Ground Realty for the past
8 years.

The best part about owning a helicopter company with my husband is that I
get to watch students walk into our office, having never been in a helicopter
or airplane before, and begin their journey in making their dreams come
true. The day a student passes their check-ride, I feel as much satisfaction
and excitement for them, as they do for themselves. It is important to make
sure that flying is FUN and that is what our company and employees are all
about!!!

The aviation community is a different breed. On Saturdays, we will often
take either the Cirrus or our R44 to a Fly-In somewhere nearby, and almost
every single time, we will experience something like this...[and we ALWAYS
laugh about it]... Keith and I will land, secure the aircraft, and then go
mingle with everyone that is there. We will introduce ourselves, look at each
others’ aircraft, etc...  As Keith introduces us to someone, they will ask how
long he has been flying, what aircraft he flies, etc... and usually not pay
much attention to me. Keith is about 6ft tall and 190lbs; I am 5'1" and
90lbs. Keith will say, "My wife is a pilot as well..." and their mouths just drop
open in disbelief. This is why it is so important for us girls to stick together,
especially in the aviation world and encourage young girls to get THEIR
wings!!!!

I would encourage all young girls to spend some time at a small airport and
get to know the feeling of that environment. Find a mentor that your
personality fits well with and talk to them as much as possible about aviation
and your dreams. We love to share our stories!!! Take a flight, read all you
can and most importantly dream BIG and NEVER GIVE UP!!! You can do it...
with a ribbon in your hair and lip gloss on... and usually, better than the
boys!! [shhhh... don't tell them….]

Please send me a message using the form above if you have any ideas,
questions, comments or simply want to chat. I am here and would love to
help any of your dreams come true!!! If you are interested in learning more
about helicopters, please feel free to check us out at www.flyhelistar.com or
give us a call at 615.350.1122.

"I have often said that the lure of flying is the lure of beauty. That the
reason flyers fly, whether they know it or not, is the aesthetic appeal of
flying." Amelia Earhart
