Student Pilot

I am currently attending a flight school in Spokane, WA, while I am in High
school. I hope to get my AA degree in Aviation, pilots license and
instrument rating by the time I graduate from High School. All of my
classes are at the flight school, except for photography, which is one of
my electives. I just finished the season in cross-country and am now
starting gymnastics. I have two horses and am a member of a 4H Club
where I compete in jumping, dressage and western games. In the Spring, I
compete on an equestrian team in reining, and games. I have received a
letter in all four sports. I run every day and love it. In the summer, I work
at an ice-cream store serving up ice cream and smoothies.

I love to travel and when I was six years old my family took a trip to
Europe. It was an overnight flight and I remember staying up the whole
night playing video games with my sister. When I was 14, my best friend
moved to Arizona and I traveled by myself to visit her, navigating the
airport and changing planes. It was a blast! Since then, I've taken smaller
trips to visit family members in various States.

I haven't needed anyone to convince me to become a pilot, it's a career
that I want to pursue and I have been enjoying what I have learned so far.
I just soloed last week and am awaiting a check ride.

I took a career questionnaire and filled in what subjects I really enjoy in
school and pilot was at the top of the list of careers to consider. My
parents have been very supportive of my decision, however, my
grandparents have been extremely negative about my goals for the future.
I think it's because my uncle and second cousins were killed in a plane
crash. They have also been very concerned about how expensive it is to
become a pilot and wonder how I am going to pay for the education. I
think that they don't want me to have to go into a lot of debt. My
grandmother hates to fly and doesn't even want to hear about my
progress. She is really afraid of heights and can't bring herself to think
about me flying up there in the clouds.

I am still learning to be a pilot and am really getting close to getting my
pilot's license. I hope to have my license by next month. A lot will depend
on the weather since we get a lot of fog and snow here this time of the
year.
