Peg
Naval Flight Officer
Hi, My name is Peg Klein. I live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Soon I am moving to a very large ship and will live on the ship
for several months. The ship is named after President Dwight
D Eisenhower.
I am married and have two children who also love airplanes. I
do not pilot the airplane, I am a Mission Specialist.... Just like
on the Space Shuttle, not everyone on the shuttle pilots it,
some of us do other work that can only be done in an airplane
in the air.
I just finished flying the Navy jet called the E-6. It looks like it
carries passengers, but it talks to submarines and lets the
President talk to the submarines if he has to.
I have been in the Navy for a long time, so my son and
daughter have gotten used to moving a lot. My son was born
in Hawaii and my daughter was born in Maryland. Our whole
family lived in Japan for two years, it was very exciting to see
another country with my family.
I have taken my son and daughter into our flight simulator,
now my daughter wants to be a fighter pilot, like Tom Cruise
in Top Gun!
I really like working with people who fly airplanes. When I live
on the ship, I get to watch planes take off and land on the
ship. At night, this is a beautiful and amazing sight.

UPDATE: Since I last saw my bio, I reported to the aircraft carrier
the USS Dwight D Eisenhower. We left Norfolk in the fall on 2006
and will be home in the spring of 2007. How's that for a long
vacation!!
Last week I got to take my first flight in a strike fighter jet. I rode
with VFA-103 in the back of an F/A-18F, the Super Hornet. We did a
fly by of the ship, it was wonderful.
I was recently selected to go back to the United States Naval
Academy to be the Commandant of Midshipmen. Almost 30 years
ago, I started college there in Annapolis. Now I will be the equivalent
of the Dean of Students. It's a great school to learn how much you
can achieve. I made a lot of friends there!
