Q: Is Girls With Wings a non-profit organization?

A: Yes, in actuality, if not legally. The government makes having a 501(c)3
organization very difficult for those who don't have a law degree. It is easier
for me not to have to worry about the tax and legal implications of forming a
non-profit with everything else I am doing. Besides, I am doing well enough
already being not with a profit anyway! That's what being a philanthropic
organization is all about. If you have any spare time, I have a multitude of
tasks I could
parcel out....

Q: So I can't make a donation to your organization?

A: Yes, of course you can. It just won't be deductible for tax purposes.

Q: You have been talking for some time about coming out with a line of Girls
With Wings
dolls. Where are they?

A: I am still working on them, I promise. I am relying on the donated
services of someone high in the toy industry, so I am dependent upon his
schedule. He has done a lot for me in his free time and I am very
appreciative. Plus, we want to do them right, and not be in a hurry just to
put something on the market.

Q: You used to have a page of "future" Girls With Wings - pictures of young
girls sporting your t-shirts. I can't find this page anymore, did you delete it?

A: Nope, it's still there, linked under the role model page, and along the right
hand side of every page. You can also view it by clicking
here. We are
accepting new pictures of future GWWs all the time, just submit it via the
link on
this page.

Q: Does Girls With Wings have a local chapter in my area? How many Girls
With Wings members are there?

A: Girls With Wings has not yet established any chapters - we are still
collecting names of supporters. Currently, we have a database of
participants in the hundreds. But to be better able to answer this FAQ and
in an effort to better track GWWs, we have established a
membership
program to better organize our information. When we get enough GWWs in
one area, we will look into forming a satellite chapter.

Q: Where is Girls With Wings located? Can you come speak to my Girl Scout
troop?

A: GWW is an internet based organization, so although the founder (me) is
located near Cleveland, Ohio, we are a multinational organization who
connects via the world wide web. So even if I can't
personally come to speak
to your troop, I may be able to find a woman in aviation who can.

Q: Multinational?

A: Yes, we have GWWs on nearly every continent!

Q: Will Girls With Wings provide my daughter with flight lessons?

A: Not exactly. Although we are not a flight school, there is a GWW
scholarship with applications being accepted every fall. The information is
available
here. And there are also GWWs around the country who have
offered to help girls with flying lessons, airport tours, etc. Please submit a
help wanted request so that we may be able to pair your daughter up with
someone in your area. p.s. it helps to have your daughter making the
request!

Q: When will Girls With Wings have an event in my area?

A: Soon, I hope. That is something we would like to do. But since we can't
logistically put on our own events, yet, we support others who do. View the
calendar page to see events that have been submitted for attendance or for
volunteer opportunities. And you can
submit your own event to ask for
volunteers or advertise to girls in your area. Girls With Wings enjoys
attending events and selling GWW merchandise as well, so if you are having
an event where we can have a vendor booth, please
email me.

Q: I did submit an event and/or volunteer to help with events and I haven't
heard anything! Is there anyone working on this?

A: Yes, I assure you I spend an enormous time on GWW. Unfortunately, I
am the only full-time volunteer for GWW (in addition to my full-time job),
and all other GWWs are donating their time and effort. If you
submitted an
event and you haven't yet heard from a volunteer, please email me again,
and I will give additional effort. If you have
volunteered, and haven't been
offered to be matched up with an event, please consider looking for things
to do via the
message board. You can put information up about other
scholarships, or events, offer insight or advice, etc. I will also send you
brochures to distribute if you can use them at your event.

Q: I am having an aviation event with a focus on girls and women and I
would love to put pictures from your website on my flyer. Is this ok?

A: Of course, I am all about promoting such events, and I would love to
help! However, I think you can understand that I have a responsibility to
those who have entrusted me with their photos and/or stories. They are not
to be reproduced elsewhere without the person's approval. Please
contact
me and I will try to procure permission. Thank you for respecting their
privacy.
Legal mumbo jumbo.

Q: I think I saw your display at AirVenture this year. I am interested in
joining - I own a Cherokee 235 and fly a B200 for work. My only concern is
that I'm not very "girly" - I don't like pink and purple (I prefer black), and I'd
rather fly than go shopping (unless it's Sporty's pilot shop). Just wondering
if I would fit in?

A: Thank you for your email. I don't want to turn others away from GWW if
they don't like pink (not my favorite color either - but it is purple!).Of course
you don't have to like pink and purple to support the Girls With Wings
Mission! If anything, we are trying to stress that aviation is open to
everyone, no matter their other interests. If you think it's important that we
women in aviation make good role models for those girls who may follow in
your footsteps -
Welcome on Board!

Q: I have a suggestion for a link that might be a good resource for visitors
to your site, how can I get it on your links page?

A: We are always looking for mutual links. Please email the information
admin@girlswithwings.com.

Q: I'm not a pilot and/or I'm a guy. Do I have a place in Girls With Wings?

A: Absolutely! GWW is not just about pilots, it's about all aviation
disciplines. Girls With Wings refers to encouraging girls to make their
dreams take flight, whatever they may be. If you were born with a Y
chromosome and support increased Science, Technology, Engineering and
Math education for your daughter or girls in general, we can use your help,
too.

Q: How is Girls With Wings different from the Young Eagles?
or I'm not
interested in supporting GWW, because I'm already a member of _______
(fill in the blank).

A: Occasionally I do hear from people that GWW is duplicating some other
organizations. There are two main reasons I feel people can support GWW
and not "betray" their other groups. One, GWW is the only organization
encouraging young girls in aviation - exclusively. We feel that organizations
targeting both boys and girls can
sometimes miss out getting young girls
interested. Two, many of our existing GWWs (including the staff) are
members of Women in Aviation, Whirly Girls, the Ninety Nines, Civil Air
Patrol, and EAA, among others. We want to contribute to the efforts of
encouraging more people into aviation. If GWW succeeds, there will be more
potential members for these groups. Synergy!

Q: Ok, you've convinced me. How can I help support Girls With Wings?

A: Many ways! If you are an aviation professional, you can submit your bio
for publication on the site - so you can be a role model for young girls. Fill
out this
form and email me a picture. You can also volunteer by submitting
this volunteer
form and I will contact you if something is happening in your
area. Please let us know of any skills you may be able to contribute. Also, by
becoming a
member, you will be added to our roster and if you join our
flight crew for $12/year, you will help fund our efforts. We also have a
selection of very cute items in our
store, the proceeds from which benefit
the GWW program. Sign up for our
eZine and you will be kept up to date of
all the things GWW is doing! I will also gladly send you brochures to
distribute to spread the news about GWW.

Q: There's a pilot shop at my local airport. Why don't you get your stuff out
to these gift shops?

A: I'd love to! If your local pilot shop would be interested in carrying GWW
merchandise, please have them
email me.

Q: I did sign up for your newsletter, but I haven't gotten one in months! I
thought you stopped publishing it.

A: Did you add GirlsWithWings@veryimportantpilots.com to your address
book? That's the only way to make sure the eZine will get through your
spam filters. If you've missed any of our monthly newsletters, they can be
viewed
here.

Q: I bought something at your booth / ordered something from your
website, and I am not happy with my purchase. What are my options?

A: (Note: this is not a
Frequently Asked Question. I just thought I might
take advantage of this opportunity!) I have bought things that broke as
soon as I walked out the door or weren't as advertised once I got them
home. Very frustrating. Please let me know if this happens to you, since I
would like to keep my customers satisfied - and revisiting. If you get
something from our booth and it breaks I'll send you a replacement. If you
order from the online store and you get damaged merchandise, I will
exchange it at my expense. If you order a wrong size, I will gladly exchange
it, but please understand, I cannot ship replacements for free. I charge what
it costs me to send items, so incurring additional shipping charges hurts my
bottom line. Please read item descriptions carefully. Regardless, always
contact me first so we can try to work something out.
