Girls With Wings: Truly Uplifting
A boost of confidence and a lot of support is what I found to be the most
important outcomes from this scholarship. I have come to realize that aside
from the financial help, this year has been a huge year in my growth as an
adult. Prior to knowing about Girls With Wings, I was very timid in how I
approached aviation. I was afraid to ask questions feeling that people would
think I was dumb. I was extremely nervous when approaching certain
challenges such as my first solo, solo cross-country, and long solo cross-
country. Writing about my experiences on the Girls With Wings web site and
getting feedback from other more experienced woman really helped me with
my insecurities.
This scholarship has helped me get all the way to check ride which is only a
few weeks away. The funds received from the scholarship were used in
accomplishing my cross-countries and a few dual lessons as well. I have
gained much from Girls With Wings, the comments on my posts have been
inspirational and I hope to continue to log on and maybe help other girls who
may be in the position I was in a year ago. I hope that other girls can use
Girls With Wings as a tool for inspiration, support and “plane” conversation.
I will be graduating with my bachelor’s degree in aviation management, along
with earning my private pilot license at the end of this month. I hope to
continue my flight training in hopes of becoming a charter pilot. Until then, I
hope to use my aviation management degree to work at an airport, FBO, or
for aviation related business. I just want to be engulfed in this amazing thing
we call aviation. I would be absolutely content in a job where I am not only
surrounded by aircraft but also people who love aviation.
Looking back at the pilot and woman I was before having such a vast female
aviation support system, I have realized that my confidence level has risen
greatly and my motivation to do things has also improved. I am inspired by
the accomplishments all of the ladies involved with Girls With Wings have
shared. I am deeply grateful to all the women involved in this organization,
and would like to thank all of you who go out of your way to help girls like
me. I wish all of you safe flights and clear skies!
