The VIP Newsletter
Girls With Wings Ends Summer with a WOW!
Last event of the summer
was the Lakewood, OH, Arts Festival. I had
a table for the non-profit Generate LIFT,
Inc. and though I was attending the event
more to support the community, I received
a great reaction to LIFT’s mission. And I
found that my niece, Delaney, (in purple) is
a natural salesperson. At only 5, she was
out working the crowd, giving away the free
airplanes I had brought.
She also came up with writing “Free
airplanes” on brochures, and placing
more signs around the table (to include
putting a brochure on a stick, standing it
high above the box of airplanes and
placing an airplane already put together
on top of that). I am not kidding you
when I tell you she stole the show --for
me and a lot of other people!
"Starting Out" & Scholarships: I have posted the information I
have found regarding scholarships on the
message boards, but I know there are a lot
of resources out there. If you know of any programs, feel free to post (especially if
you have some tips on how to pursue these scholarships). That’s why they’re there!
Also, I have gotten a lot of emails as a result of the AOPA Flight Training Magazine
article, asking for advice on where and how to start pursuing a dream of aviation. If
you are looking for advice, please post on the board. If you are already in aviation
(yes, even you student pilots!), please respond to these requests for help. Even
better, post a message putting your name out there as a source of information!
New look to Generate LIFT: The Generate LIFT, Inc. website has
been redesigned. Please visit the website to see the changes & let me know what you
think. We are always looking to publicize aviation programs, scholarships,
volunteer opportunities, flight school recommendations, etc., so we can all help to

Generate LIFT: Lead. Inspire. Fund. Train.
Memberships/professional affiliations: I am personally a
member of Women in Aviation, International; The Ninety-Nines; The Whirly-
Girls; EAA, etc., and supporter of many museums and non profits, aviation related
and otherwise. I have sought to do mutual links with most of these organizations,
some successfully. I try to emphasize to everyone who seeks out more information
about Girls With Wings™: we are not looking to run these great organizations out
of business (as if we could!). At GWW, we feel our success with only contribute to
greater membership/support for all!
New Merchandise: The eBay
store is getting more merchandise all the
time. Recently added: Airplane Key
chains with a watch face! And there is a lot
more forthcoming in time for the
holidays. If there’s something you’d like
to see us carry, please send me a message
and let me know. I’ll try to track it down.
Our Newest Girls
With Wings™
:
So many new bios this
month you’ll have to visit the
website to read them all!
Note: Please encourage others you know in different aviation fields to contribute a bio.
Speakers Bureau: I had a great response from the midmonth request
for willing volunteers to speak at various aviation events (unfortunately, no one
YET able to speak on September 16th in Nappanee, IN; how about you?). If you
haven’t submitted your name, please do so via the
message board or email me.
Help Wanted: The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in Rhinebeck, NY, is
looking for pilots... listen to this! They are looking for people to get certified on
some of the old planes so that they have a "pilot pool" that will enable them to
get as many planes in the air as possible every weekend. I know for a fact that
they only have one or two to fly the Fokker D1 (the Red Baron's Tri-plane),
which is one of the most famous planes in history.  They want to fly it every
Saturday and Sunday but are limited by pilot availability.  Some of you that live
"nearby" can always fly your own planes to the field! I sure wish I lived closer....
For the military pilots: Two organizations contacted me looking
for you! The
Chick Fighter Pilot Association: representing the approximately 75
female fighter pilots in the military. And the
River Rats: Red River Valley
Fighter Pilot Association. Originally an organization of Vietnam Veteran pilots,
now open to all military crewmembers!
Professional advice needed…  I find myself spending all of
the money I made at Oshkosh paying lawyers, accountants, computer techs,
artists, etc., for even the smallest of consultations. I have also done without any
marketing research input (maybe you’ve noticed?). If you have any education or
experience in these areas and feel GWW is a worthwhile cause to donate some
time to, please email me at
admin@girlswithwings.com. Thank you in advance.
The Girls With Wings Crew: Penelope is in the
works for a holiday season arrival. We’re keeping our fingers crossed
she’ll make it in time (I also have no experience manufacturing dolls!).
Ensure the success of GWW by submitting your bio (outline follows),
telling others about us, and signing up on the GWW update list so you can be
notified of all developments and volunteer opportunities. Recent visits to the
website have been between 200-300 (sometimes topping 500) per day. I would
love to keep this traffic up, please spread the word!
Note: I take your privacy
very seriously; I will never give the email distribution list out to a 3rd party.
GWW BIOGRAPHICAL OUTLINE:
If you’re an aviation professional, you can submit your bio for publication on
the site! These are aimed at reached very young girls, so please, no multi-
syllabic words or too complex concepts that may be difficult for them to
understand.

Who you are and where you live. Do you have any children, pets, etc.?

What memories do you have as a child about flying and/or aviation? Is there
anyone who helped convince you that this job was something you could do?

What convinced you to become a __________? Did anyone stand in your
way? What lessons did you learn on your journey to becoming a licensed pilot,
certified mechanic, etc.?

If you are a pilot, where did you learn to fly, aircraft you have flown, and what
you fly now? Do you own an airplane?

If your career is being a pilot, what are your duties? Or, if flying is your hobby,
what do you do fulltime? Why did you choose the type of flying you do?

If you have a different aviation career, what are your duties? Why did you get
involved in the field you did over another field?

Why do you enjoy your job and some interesting facts about the life of
__________. Have you written books or articles about it? What is the best
part of your job?

A funny story, maybe? Or a strange reaction you get from people when they
learn you’re a pilot or other aviation professional?

I can put pictures in of the aircraft or other things you mention if you don’t
have photos (... but I know you have tons!). I will eventually have a whole
“filmstrip” for each contributor, so every picture you have would be greatly
appreciated. Please include “fun” pictures with friends and family members.
There is no limitation on the number of photographs! Video clips are also
welcome.

Bonus:
Q        WHAT ROLE DO SKILLS IN MATH, SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, AND
TECHNOLOGY PLAY IN SUPPORTING YOUR JOB?
Q        WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU SUGGEST FOR YOUNG CHILDREN OR
YOUNG ADULTS TO PREPARE THEM FOR A CAREER LIKE YOURS?

Thank you so much for your support. You must attach at least one picture of
yourself in an appropriate capacity to be posted on the website. Visitors will
click on this photo to read more about YOU! And, if at all possible, please
include an email address that you would like people to be able to contact you
through if they desire to talk to you some more.
Visit www.GirlsWithWings.com and register on the forum!
Thanks for all of your support.
Blue Skies,
