Oshkosh! Another successful year at EAA AirVenture – thanks to all that came
by the booth to make a purchase, share a conversation or donate their time to
help staff the booth. Cindy’s son, Cody (2 ½ months), was a hit! Cindy - (an
Airbus320 pilot), traveled to Oshkosh with her 2 kids, slept in a camper, and
worked the booth for two full days while breastfeeding - proves that women
really can do it all!

Thunderbird Visit Maj Nicole Malachowski, the first female member of the Thunderbirds (and a GWW)
will visit the International Forest of Friendship in Atchison, KS, on the morning of Saturday, August 4.
She was on tour and was unable to attend when I was inducted in June, so they're going to do a
mini-induction ceremony sometime in the 10:30-11:30 range, followed by public affairs events. Nicole
has said that she'd love to talk with any kids during her time from 11:15-12:15, but she can be
flexible. www.ifof.org
Wings of Women I was at the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio, at the Wings of
Women (WOW) Conference on July 20, playing the Flight Instrument Game with a group of high
school students. www.nationalaviation.org

The Newest Girls With Wings
Talene Growing up, I was a tomboy who liked the outdoors, history, and the military. I credit my
father for unintentionally peaking my interest in aviation. Every time an older aircraft would fly over
our house, he would always yell “Talene, get out here! Do you know what that is?” My answer usually
was “No”. I didn’t know what I was looking at other than an airplane, helicopter, or balloon. My dad
would then go on to explain what the airplane was and its use in our history. My dad still does this to
me! http://girlswithwings.com/Talene.html
Lin Like most pilots, I always wanted to fly. I grew up on a farm near Dulles Airport and would
run outside to watch for the Concorde when I heard it's loud engines overhead. We often had
hot air balloons land in the nearby fields and I loved rushing out to talk to them while they
packed up. I visited Kennedy Space Center when I was 11 and was fascinated with everything I
saw. http://girlswithwings.com/Lin.html
Sarah I joined the military and once I realized that aviation was a definite possibility, I enrolled
in the Avionics Technician program (working with the instruments in the cockpit). That is where
my career took off. Now that I am out of the military, I work at the local airport as an avionics
technician and mechanics assistant. I am currently working on my A&P license on my own and
am a student pilot. There are always pilots that come in and say to me, “Wow, a girl mechanic?
That's something you don't see every day!” http://girlswithwings.com/Sarah.html
