Full STEAM Ahead! Angie Slingluff, the Aviation and Space Education Coordinator for FAA Alaska Region AAL-30,
was interviewed on Ultraflight Radio, an internet radio talk show, about the Hooper Bay Build A Plane project, the first
in a series of efforts to establish aircraft construction programs in remote Alaskan villages. If you would like to listen
to it, the interview lasts about 20 minutes. She acknowledged the Girls With Wings’ introduction of the "A" in STEM

Dianne I am an Engineer by trade, and an A&P and CFI for fun! I had much training and education,
but do not forget -- men did not know how to use a wrench when they were born, they had to learn
also. NOT all men can fly nor can all men use a tool!  If you think you want to try -- go ahead,
WOMEN fly and WOMEN are mechanics!

Novel about a “novel” airline pilot I would like to recommend the book “Medusa’s Daughter,” a
murder-mystery, with a lot of airline/airplane references and especially nods to women military pilots.
(It does have some mature references and rough language, just so you know.) The author, Michael
Boyd, has “women in aviation” as one of his pet causes because his 83-year-old mother began flying
at age 50—and was an active private pilot until well into her 60s. (Her second husband had been an
Army Air Corps P-38 pilot in WWII, and when he died fairly young, she decided to fly in tribute to him.)

The GWW Scholarship We pleased with the great response to the First Ever $500 GWW Flight Training

Proof: Women really do prefer pink! From Reuters – Boys like blue, girls like pink and there isn't much anybody
can do about it, researchers said in one of the first studies to show scientifically that there are gender-based color
preferences. Researchers said these differences may have a basis in evolution in which females developed a
preference for reddish colors associated with riper fruit and healthier faces.
