Come join us! GWW will have a booth at the Women in Aviation
Conference
in San Diego, CA. If you would like to spend some time
with us, we have a limited number of badges for the exhibitor hall only (it won’t get you into seminars).
Email ASAP. Learn more about the March 13-15th conference We will also be at Oshkosh again this
year from July 28th - August 3rd. Let us know if you want to help. I still have not decided whether to
do a camper or tents this year – it depends on who all will be there.

From Brenda, GWW scholarship winner: I began flying in the summer of 2006. The rush was
amazing; I had instantly fallen in love with flying. I flew constantly, and I got up to about 10 hours of
flight time. Then I realized that my pocket was empty. My wages were not enough to continue. I
moved on to college and I am now finishing up my second year. I received an e-mail from a friend
letting me know about GWW and the opportunity on a scholarship. I read the qualifications and I
instantly got excited. I said “why not, I could win this” so I set my mind to it and I submitted my
essay. A week before the scholarship winner was announced I received a call from Lynda Meeks
herself. I was so nervous and I wasn’t prepared for any of her questions, I was on my way to work.
So I decided to just be myself. She was easy to talk to and really understanding. I couldn’t believe at
that point that she was actually considering me! Read the
rest of her testimonial.

The Girls With Wings Website I am slowly switching over to the new color
scheme on www.GirlsWithWings.com. It’s a little bolder, a little brighter (and
taking a lot longer than I had expected!). What do you think?
Nicole I get reactions every time I see people I used to hang out with, when I tell
them that I got my pilot certificate now. It's even funnier when I tell them I have
competed in air racing, and planning on doing the Air Race Classic this year. I think
the funniest reaction was at my workplace, when the pilot I co-piloted for showed up
at my work to drop off some books for an upcoming race. The lady working the
front desk was surprised, as she had no clue that I was a pilot, and I had been
working there for over a year.
Theresa Although I am sometimes asked if I am old enough to have a driver's
license, I am a full-time flight instructor with approximately 1,800 hours of flight
time. I have been a flight instructor at Solo Aviation, Inc. in Ann Arbor, Michigan
since December 2006. I am a commercial single-engine and multi-engine pilot, a
commercial glider pilot, a Certified Flight Instructor for airplane and instrument
training, an Advanced Ground Instructor, and an Instrument Ground Instructor.
Adrienne When I was 20 years old, I approached my mom about becoming a
flight attendant, just like her. She said that she would help me, but wanted me to
try flying because she thought that it would challenge me more. Reluctantly, I took
my first lesson near my home at Camarillo Airport in Southern California. I was
terrified of this tiny Cessna-152 that I was supposed to control!!! But after I
soloed that airplane a few months later, I felt alive! At that moment, I committed
myself 100% to making it to a major airline.
Anna I am from Hungary, Szeged. I am 22 years old. I am a student now. My
father started to fly when I was 10 years old. At the same time I had my first
flight with R-26 Gobe glider plane. I really enjoyed it, that's why I decided to fly. I
got a lot of help from my parents and my teachers. Gliding is the most beautiful
way of being in the air, I think. There is silence up there. Usually all the men who
get know that I am a glider pilot says that it is strange from a girl. But people like
those who are a little bit strange from them.
The Girls With Wings Program I talked a bit last month about my formalizing the GWW
Program. It is my intent to lock in the message of inspiration and learning into four grade specific
lesson plans covering 1st through 12th grade. So, I have a favor to ask you, my readers and
supporters. I can find TONS of information about how and what to teach in aviation, but not so much
the why. I have never been a flight instructor – can those of you who have taught students let me
know a bit about what positive effect flight training had on women? Specifically, the changes you see
in women over their training period, how they learn differently, any examples or testimonials you
might have? And, any other insight into the relationship between young girls and the importance of
role models? I know so many of you have helped out with Girl Scouts and other events, so you’re a
great source of knowledge. Don’t forget to include what inspired you!
